Gok Wan reveals his PERFECT body!

October 20th, 2009

Gok Wan is one TV star not afraid to beat around the bush – and I commend him for that. I caught up with him last week at the Xtra Factor and he told me he’d love to get his magic hands on those Pussycat Dolls. Gok, releasing his new book Work Your Wardrobe, said: “I’d love to get my hands on them because they’re famous for their really overtly sexy look and getting their boobs out.

“But I’d like to put them away and try a demure politicians-wives-kind-of-look. Go Sam Cam!”

He also described the perfect body in his eyes. “The perfect body would have the arms of Dannii Minogue, Beyonce’s boobs and Julia Roberts arse and legs,” he said. “In her Pretty Woman heyday of course. Phwoar!”

*Leigh Francis’ comedy character Keith Lemon is coming to a big screen near you. The star tells me he’s starting work soon on Keith Lemon the movie and it will feature a whole host of his celebrity friends. “The films happening through Lionsgate and it should be a blast,” he revealed. Can’t wait for that one!

*Keeley Hawes is a jolly nice lady. I bumped into her at the Omega  Constellation bash and she told me filming for the new Ashes to Ashes series is going swimmingly. “It’s long hours,” Kelley said. “But it’s worth it. We’ve got eight episodes to film and we’ve just starting and going to be continuing right through until February.”

*Congratulations to Giles Vickers Jones and the charming Lizzie Cundy. The showbiz pair are back on our screens at the end of November to bring us another series of ITV at the Movies. It’s the only place for you’re A-List film news and reviews!

*Tamar Hassan continues to be one of the UK’s biggest film stars. This week sees the release of his next flick Dead Man Running alongside 50 Cent, Brenda Blethyn and Danny Dyer. Tam is currently filming with Vinnie Jones the comedy Magic Boys – the story of the Dream Boys male strip group! Wowzers!

*Alexandra Burke’s
new album Overcome hits stores this week. The star talked boys with me this week and revealed she’s been warned not to date dancers by Cheryl Cole. She said: “Cheryl told me never to date a dancer and I’ve never got to the bottom of exactly who?? In fact she said to stay away from boys completely as they’re distracting. I’ll get a dog instead.”

Celebrity hairdresser James Brown talks Kate Moss, filming his new documentary and why he loves horses so much!

October 15th, 2009

You recently filmed a documentary about setting up your salon – how was it and why did your builders seem to hate you so much!?
They didn’t hate me but they are so not used to somebody with an idea. To me a plug socket that’s half way up a wall is ugly. I want them hidden. Builders are lazy. I’ve done houses in New York, Ireland and London and I know what I want. I had a vision with my salon. Instead of asking me about my choice – they give me this plastic rank lights.

Why do a reality show?
Well I think it’s more a documentary. It’s real because it’s my life but it was fine. I didn’t notcie the cameras at all. The first day of filming was a blast and it went from there. I don’t want to be famous, I just liked the idea of doing a show about opening the salon. I met the guys at Tiger Aspect for dinner and it came up in conversation and then two days later I was filming it.

Did you worry about the way you would be edited?

I forgot 95% of the time that we were filming or that I had a microphone on. Nobody cared and I was amazed at how open my friends were.

Were the likes of Kate Moss not worried about being filmed?
No, not at all. I was shopping on the first day and Kate called and she said what are you doing and I said I was shopping and she came and joined me. And that was it. She knew I was filming and didn’t care.

I’m obsessed with hearing her speak!
I know – loads of people are. She’s very normal. You expect her to have this Calvin Klein model voice but she doesn’t. I think it’s great that she’s not affected like some of those New York models. You can really see from this show what she’s like. I think Tiger Aspect thought I’d want loads of stuff out of the show – but we didn’t cut one scene.

Did you want the documentary to be warts and all?
Yes. I mean if I’m not happy with something I explode and go nuts but then I move on and I forget about it. I never hold a grudge.

Has Kate Moss put money into your business?
No, but she’s involved in it from start to finish. She’s got amazing taste. She’s had access to so many places through her travels. She’s the face of the salon and the brand. She’s helped with designs and she’s still a legend in the modeling world.

Who’s your favourite client?
Demi Moore and Kate are my favourites. Demi’s professional as hell. She’s beautiful and she’s genuine. She’s warm and wonderful. You can see why she’s still doing what she’s doing here. Those two work harder than anybody I know.

What do you think of Madonna?
I’ve never been a fan really. I just don’t get it or understand it. I do think her hair now is looking the best it’s ever looked. I’ve just never been a fan. I’d much rather have Chrissie Hynde in my chair.

If you could chop anyone’s hair in the world who would it be?

Camilla Parker Bowles. Definitely – I think she’s amazing. I’m a huge fan of the Royal Family. I think they’re amazing. I think me and Camilla would get on. She’s fun and she loves her horses. I have horses on my farm in Ireland – there’s nothing like shoveling shit to keep you grounded. I’d just love to get my hands on her. I’m obsessed.

Would Kate Moss ever have a pixie haircut again?
Well if she wanted it. The first time she had the pixie cut she was dressed and ready to go and we did it while the car was waiting. She doesn’t plan her looks in advance – ever.

What do you think of your pal Sienna Miller’s hair now?
She’s got great hair now. She’s really looking fabulous. I’m glad she’s grown it out now. She chopped it for Factory Girl and then ended up in wigs for the role. It was a pointless chop.

Who would you most want to rescue hair wise?

Katie Price. She needs to get rid of that black hair and go back to blonde. I’ve always wanted to meet her. I love her as a person but I hate her look. I’d love to meet her. She needs to be softer and I’d love to do it. She loves gorses just as much as I do. I might start stalking her. I went to the Salon International event and tried to find her but couldn’t! I could like Charles Manson if they had horses. I’m, a little obsessed. I want to do horse products soon.

Kate’s been getting stick for not looking good lately – thoughts?

It’s completely ridiculous! Kate looks amazing right now. She gets picked on for everything. She’s only little though!

How do you relax and unwind?

Well I’ve been in Ireland for six weeks. But I do chill out. I don’t use email. I have a phone but I don’t want to spend my time on the phone. I get people to email me on a Blackberry and then I call them back. Email messages get lost in translation so I don’t like sending them. I never know what people mean so I speak to them and I know what’s happening.

There was a £27,000 haircut recently – thoughts?

That was just disgusting. I love cutting hair so to be honest most people are a freebie. In fact everyone’s a freebie. I love what I do but I’m not ripping people off. It’s a joke. I don’t believe in trends or anything either.

Are you liking Dannii Minogue’s look right now?

I love it. I like the quiff when it’s up and it’s right up. It looks phenomenal. I’m addicted to the X Factor although I didn’t have a telly until recently. I went to Argos and got a telly. I love my house being dark and I use candles so my friends wouldn’t come over until recently because there was nothing to do but talk. For the last two years I’ve gone to Kate’s house to watch telly.

Who else do you like out of your celeb friends?

Lily Allen. I can’t live without her. I hate it when she fucks with her hair though and dyes it. She’s got the shiniest, healthiest and most gorgeous black hair. She’s a great girl and very funny.

The Juicy Couture launch attracts Duran Duran, Lily Cole and Tamara Beckwith

October 14th, 2009

It was a fun night last night at the fabulous Juicy Couture bash on Bruton Street in Mayfair. I took along X factor choreographer Brian Friedman for an evening jam packed with champers, canapes and, er, desserts!

Juicy Couture, founded by Duran Duran band member John Taylor’s wife Gela Nash-Taylor, is a brand you will all know very soon. If you don’t know it already…..

Do any of you remember the early Juicy Couture trousers worn by the All Saints in the late nineties? Or maybe the velour pants that Jennifer Lopez wore that said ‘Juicy’ on the back?!

Well, Juicy Couture have taken things up a notch or two in my book and the current range is up market, classy and slick. Hell, they even have a store in Mayfair now people!

Celebs galore trotted into the bash. I spotted Simon, Yasmin and Amber Le Bon testing out the desserts on offer, Lily Cole debuting a gothic red colour hair and Jade Jagger wearing sparkly red strappy heels at the event. As well as bikini designer supremo Melissa Odabash, Duran Duran star Nick Rhodes, girl about town Tamara Beckwith, Henry Conway and my favourite model of the moment Ben Grimes.

I did find myself staring pretty obviously at Yasmin Le Bon at one point. How that woman manages to keep her skin so flawless I’ll never know! And FYI – the face moves!

Pop by the Juicy Couture store on Bruton Street in London now.

When I met the fabulous Nelly Furtado….

Hey Nelly, Great to meet you. The new album Mi Plan has been top of the Latin Charts in the States for five weeks-  kinda cool!
It’s a thrill to be at the top of the Latin charts. It’s even better to have the success after the Loose album – which was huge for me. That was an incredible ride with Loose. Fun – but hard work.

So it’s probably nicer having a Spanish language album – reaching new audiences and taking it slightly easier with the promotion.
This time around it’s in Spanish and it’s opening up my music to a new audience. I recorded this album in Toronto and Miami. My main colaborator.

Tell me about the album.
Well it’s my fourth studio album- I don’t consider it my ‘Spanish’ album – it’s my fourth pop product. I considered doing a quickie Spanish album a few years ago but it didn’t feel right. I don’t do ‘quick’ anything.
I mull things over and come up with quality with my work. I want people to have faith in that and they come back then for future albums. Music is my main gig so we don’t muck about! I’m 50/60% fluent in Spanish. So some songs I’d come away and enlist other people to help me finish the lyrics. I guess I just felt that I’d almost ran out of things to say in English so it was brilliant to mix things up.

So can we expect an English language album afterwards?
I actually took a break to work on the Spanish because I’d gone into the studio and had nothing left to say in English for a while. Writing in Spanish on this album has opened me up to being able to write in English again. It’s cured my writer’s block. I jammed with Timbaland over Spring break – and we wrote new songs. It’s electronic and fusion.

You have collaborated lots in the past – anybody else you’d love to work with?
I think it would be great to work with a female like Madonna or Kylie. I’m a huge fan of Kylie. I love the idea of proper girl power. It’s good. I work with tonnes of men and with this album I worked with a few women and loved the results. And Eminem would be good – he’s interesting. I like collaborations because I’ve always secretly wanted to be in a band. So working with people on my projects keeps me sane.

Have you even performed Broken Strings (her duet with James Morrison)live yet?
I’m thinking of doing Broken Strings live in an acoustic performance actually next week. We must sing it together at some point – we just haven’t gotten around to it yet.

What about kids – do you want to expand your brood?

Well my little girl’s six now. I’d like to have more children. I love parenting. It’s important to me and special. I really do have the most boring life when I’m at home. I get up looking like shit and work and I’m in sweat pants – well, velour jogging pants – and fisherman rubber boots.

You left your rubber boots at home today!
Exactly, I’m back in the heels to promote this album. They say you have your whole life to write your first album. I’ve had two years off to do this album. It seems like a lifetime. I’m coming from a whole new perspective.
The language doubles my thoughts this time around – the Spanish language is full of so much more emotion. I wanted this album to be credible in the Latin world. Everyone like Shakira and Ricky Martin have to have albums in Spanish to a high standard. They are geniuses. I had to enlist masterful people to work with to get this album like it is. I’m proud of it.

Did having a fluent Spanish husband help with the writing?
I’m married to somebody that’s fluent Spanish Cuban American. A lot of this album is about relationships. We might argue in Spanish together from time to time – and that translated into the songs very well too!

How do you stay fit and healthy?
It’s tricky to stay fit and healthy in this game. It’s a process for me and it’s all about nutrition. I’ve needed to learn about nutrition lately and this year I’ve learnt all about healthy fats. Avacados, cocunuts, almond butter, peanut butter are all great for you. You can have fats like that and they can work for you. I’ve also read up about it all and to get all scientific it’s good for your brain too!

Wow, you sound into your nutrition!

Don’t get me wrong I go to Portugal every summer and I eat loads of bread and cheese. You can’t deprive yourself things in life. I’m not that bad – I’m not obsessive – there are no fad diets though.

Are you going to tour this album?

I will tour. We’ve done some in Mexico and we’re doing Latin America and Europe. I’m hosting the MTV Latin Awards too. I think I’m wearing 10 different outfits at the minute. I like the fashion part of dressing up. I’ve always loved clothes – that’s the fun, yet tedious, thing about my job. I used to dress up my dolls when I was little and I have my little girl to dress up too.

Nelly Furtado’s album, Mi Plan, and single, Manos Al Aire, are both released this week on Universal Records.

Ronan Keating buffs up for new single Stay!

September 29th, 2009

015

Ronan Keating’s body is out of control – it’s official. Just check out his new look. Hose me down with cold water and lock me in a cupboard!

In the new video for Stay he takes his kit off to reveal his newly ripped tum. In an interview last week Ronana revealed: “I’m training about four to five times a week at the moment and I never knew I’d enjoy it this much.

“Staying fit and in shape is really a full time job and pretty difficult to manage with a busy work schedule and family life.”

There’s not much more to say apart from Ronan, I salute you. All my detoxing and running in Bushy Park of late had better start paying off like it has for Lord Ronan!

Ronan Keating‘s new album Winter Songs and single Stay is out  November 16.

Jenni Falconer and Chloe Madeley party at Aura in London

September 27th, 2009

Jenni Falconer + Chloe Madeley

GMTV star Jenni Falconer and Richard and Judy’s fabulous daughter Chloe Madeley cut a pretty picture at the relaunch bash for Aura nightclub. The venue, just alongside The Ritz in central London, had fashion designer Henry Holland and DJ to the stars Sam Young spinning the tunes at the swanky bash. Aura is officially back in Vogue! I used to spend a lot of time there and I’m pleased to say the re-design is brilliant…..miles better than the old look!
