Bill Nighy, Matt Cardle and Kelly Clarkson help switch the Regent Street Christmas lights on

November 13th, 2011

Good news Pirate Of The Caribbean fans. Actor Bill Nighy – who plays Davy Jones in the successful franchise – has backed another movie to be made.
Speaking at the turning on of the Regent Street Christmas lights he said: “There is talk about doing another. They are so loved and so successful that it would be unlikely that they’ll leave it. I think the only thing that would prevent it is if Johnny Depp said he didn’t want to do it. I can’t see why they wouldn’t do another.”
But sadly any fans of Bill’s chart bid with Christmas Is All Around may be disappointed to learn he plans to hang up his mic. “I won’t put the nation through my singing anymore,” he said. “Anyone that liked that song needs help. But I am on a charity single as part of my film Arthur Christmas singing in my grandpa Santa voice. It’s called Make Someone Happy and it’s raising money for Starlight. I got to sing it in the Beatles’ room at Abbey Road studios which was incredible.”

Former Ugly Betty start Ashley Jensen (above left) has taken a pop to all the Joss Stone types out there and promises never to Americanise the dulcet tones of her Scottish accent. “I don’t understand how people do start talking transatlantic. It always sounds a bit weird,” she said at the turning on of the Regent Street Christmas lights. “I think I’ve managed not to loose mine because I know who I am and am comfortable with that. I can change it if needs be but most people ask me to keep my Scottish accent.”
And despite now living Stateside Ashley isn’t keen to get involved in the crazy La-La land lifestyle.
“I think people expect you to morph and change but I always think there is nothing more unique than being yourself. You are your own little package. I think if everyone embraced that a little bit more and stopped trying to be like other people then things might be better. Start focusing on things that matter.” Well said!

I’m so glad Kelly Clarkson did her homework before her recent X Factor performance. Not!
“I didn’t know that Kelly Rowland was a judge so that was kind of a big surprise!” Kelly laughed. “She is a fellow Texan so we had lots to talk about.”
And Kel – who’s album Stronger is out now – also had some choice words for X Factor loser Frankie Cocozza. “Some people like that lifestyle so that’s cool for them but I don’t fit into that and I don’t want to fit in it. I still live in Texas and that keeps me grounded. A lot of people love the fast-lane but that’s their thing and not mine.” Good girl.

Matt Cardle seemed pretty shocked when I broke the news of the axing of X Factor’s Frankie Cocozza to him earlier this week and gave me his take on the matter.
“It was pretty bad what he did in order to get kicked out. If he had walked then fair enough. He’s not had an easy ride bless him but he was a very bad boy. There were lots of house rules in place like keep your room tidy and be nice to each other.”
And Matt tells me he is giving himself until 2020 to shake off his X Factor tag.
“It was only last year that I was on X Factor so I’m not in any rush to loose it as there’s nothing bad about having been on there. Will Young is just Will Young now but it’s taken him ten years. People tell me that he’s managed to shake off the tag but then he’s had a whole decade for people to forget why he’s there. If I’m still doing this in 10 years then that would be amazing.” Good luck.

Agyness Deyn teams up with Harvey Weinstein

November 13th, 2011

Agyness Deyn is making some serious waves in the acting world. She’s soon to star in the remake of Pusher playing a stripper. But now I hear Hollywood bigshot Harvey Weinstein has started to sit up and take notice of the model turned actress. My source tells me: “Harvey came up to Agyness at an awards ceremony ceremony and was gushing about how much he loved her performance in the film. He just couldn’t stop saying how much he loved her. She was really thrilled.”
He must have been thrilled – I hear after watching just 20 minutes of the new flick he decided to take a punt and have bought the film up for his company to distribute. Wowzers.
The original Pusher, released in 1996, was set in Copenhagen, but Luis Prieto’s version will see the characters transported to the streets of London. Richard Coyle, Bronson Webb and Paul Kaye are set to star alongside Aggy in the film, that was shot in May.

Paloma Faith sings at the Tia Maria party in London

November 12th, 2011

Paloma Faith needs to get a groove on with album number two if you ask me. The star herself is bored with singing the same old tracks from her debut album. At Friday’s Tia Maria Masquerade party in town the star announced: “I’m bored shitless of singing these songs.” You said it honey. Other stars at the bash included Made In Chelsea monkeys and Simon Cowell’s ex Terri Seymour.

INTERVIEW: Kelly Rowland

November 8th, 2011

Up until now Kelly Rowland has sat back and remained dignified and silent about all the controversial goings on in this year’s X Factor. But now the gloves are coming off.  The Destiny’s Child singer is ready to fight for her girls Misha B and Janet Devlin, won’t be towing the line when it comes to judging panel infighting and says she’d prefer to quit than lose the group she’s worked so hard on.

“Dude, I’m not anybody’s puppet,” Kelly, 30, announces in her dressing room with her head wrapped up tightly in a chic Meg Mathews scarf. “If anybody is playing by the rules then they’re my rules.

“When Simon gave me the job he liked the fact I stood by my word.”

Mr Cowell has even left a permanent mark within Kelly’s dressing room – sat proudly on her dresser is a framed picture of Simon with a note reading, “Thank you Lippy for everything, Love Simon.”

“He calls me Lippy,” the make-up free star explains. “He likes me because I have a smart mouth. I’m not afraid of him and I respect him. I’m actually not afraid of him in any way. We would be electric on the same judging panel – can you imagine? I love my panel. I love being on a panel with Gary and Louis and I love being on the panel with Tulisa – despite what people are saying.”

She’s furious at shock plans being muted to shake up the show to gain better viewing figures. Rumours suggest judges will be forced to switch categories for the final stages of the competition.  Clearly not having heard the news she says: “What? Uh-oh. I don’t want no body touching my girls. I’m not giving Misha and Janet up for anyone. I’d walk before I gave them up.

“Everybody is doing such a good job mentoring their own acts. And don’t know why they’d do that.”

Kelly takes huge lugs on a Dr Nelson’s vocal chord steamer inbetween speaking to me following her recent illness. On last week’s show she missed the live episodes throughout the weekend after falling ill in Los Angeles with a viral throat infection and not being able to fly home.  She’s furious people have questioned her illness after she made a croaky phone call to the studio for the final eviction between Sophie Habibis and Misha B.

“I was pissed at that,” she says. “It was such a slap in my face. There was no reason to say that. I’m only half way back to talking my best now. I’ve got a hacking cough. When people started saying that I was annoyed. I don’t wish anybody to feel the way I felt last week. My neck to my jawline was swollen together. It wasn’t pretty. I looked like a lineback football player.”

But what did she do to keep herself busy? She was busy planning for her girls as well as studying the work of Cheryl Cole. She laughs: “I was watching Cheryl Cole YouTube performances and thinking what it would be like to perform on X Factor myself. I want to do that with my new album. I would love to get on that stage. I also looked at all the girls auditions from the beginning. I can’t not be honest with these girls. I can’t worry about hurting their feelings. Of course you have to be careful with words and the way you say things because they are 19 and 16 years old. But I am not here to hinder them and keep the truth from them because then they won’t grow.”

You definitely feel Kelly is fighting hard for Misha this week – especially after the star made the bottom two last weekend following her row the week before with Tulisa when she brought up the fact Misha was gaining a diva reputation backstage. Janet’s name hardly enters the frame.

“What should stand is what people do on stage,” she says seriously. “They’re not being judged on behind the scenes and that’s the point with Tulisa. Misha is like, ‘I eat this stage when I come on, thank you and thank you for the meal.’  Misha is the one I think could flip and make it to the States. I think that we’re only at the tip of the iceberg with Misha. That’s why it’s important for people to vote for her. Being in the bottom two has jump started her.”

Both Kelly and Tulisa Contostavlos seem keen to put their on-screen row behind them and move on with the competition. Kelly says she’s seen her three times during the week and rumours of in fighting and catfights are just not true.

“I spoke to her when I was away ill, I saw her at Gary’s house this week and I saw her at the Cosmopolitan Awards,” she admits. “To not talk to Tulisa would be very preschool middle school and I’m an adult. Don’t get me wrong I was very disappointed. And I wanted to make sure I was honest to myself and honest with her. We are cool now. Everybody needs to get on with it and move on. I have respect for Tulisa. We are not that dissimilar really. We both grafted and made our careers from scratch and have a strong work ethic. We’ve agreed to disagree over the Misha debacle. We didn’t row. I just disagreed with what she said and I hope that what she said means Misha isn’t stuck in the bottom again. It’s old news. I’m now just concentrating on moving on and keeping my girls in the competition.

“This is a competition and it won’t be the last time that me, Tulisa or Gary and Louis have a disagreement. Every time I see Tulisa she says hi. Neither of us want to be catty with each other but both of us want to be honest and real with each other. So we tell it like it is. We do our jobs and we are professional.”

You get the feeling the penny has finally dropped on what a big deal being a judge on X Factor in the UK is. She had no idea how much it would change her life.

She lets out a sigh and admits: “I didn’t know what to expect and I didn’t know I would be so involved and it would be so time consuming. But it has been a great experience and it has completely changed my life for the better.

“It has made me up my game professionally because I cant tell the girls to do something and then not do it myself. Everything from rehearsal to voice lessons and bad habits. I feel like I’m talking to a mirror. And it’s exciting.”

Kelly’s new album Here I Am is out next week

All the gossip from the Cosmopolitan Ultimate Women Awards!

November 8th, 2011

Alexandra Burke is finally preparing to release the first cuts from her second album. And despite being released from Cowell’s label Syco before signing a new deal at RCA it would appear Simon still has an influence on her career. She told me at the Cosmopolitan Ultimate Woman of the Year awards this week: “Simon’s heard the tracks and his opinion is still very valid for me in my career. RCA is the perfect home for me and I just can’t wait to get started. It’s actually been ready to go since August,. I’ve got the lead single and it will go to radio at the start of December with a January release. I worked on 70 tracks for the album and I’m thrilled with it. I just can’t wait for it to be out there.” Exciting stuff.

I was getting worried about the future of the Sugababes after the release of their last single Freedom turned out to be a non-charting give away to fans. But Amelle Berrabah tells me that’s not the case. Amelle said: “You’ll be hearing from us soon. The main plan is for us to start releasing new music in February. We’re still recording material for the album now and it’s sounding great. We haven’t split and nothing bad is happening.”
And obviously Babe Heidi Range needs to take time out from the band – with all her training for Dancing On Ice! Apparently she’s doing well. Amelle added: “She’s taken to the ice like a duck to water.” Good for her.

Kelly Rowland seemed fairly into boxer David Haye after he presented her with the TV Personality gong. My spies caught the pair flirting outrageously in the corridor backstage. But something tells me David may need to brush-up on his chat-up technique. “He told me he w**ked off to my picture which left me stunned,” said Kelly.”He is so hot! He expressed himself and was very honest. I find British men are much more upfront and they very handsome especially when you find one that is just such a man because that’s so hot. I wouldn’t be interested in Frankie Cocozza though as he’s got too many names on his behind for me!”

Anti-WAG Abbey Clancy (above with me) may have got married to footie player Peter Crouch but she’s still yet to have her hen party! The star tells me she’s going to organise a ‘reverse hen’ next summer. “I’m thinking about taking all the girls somewhere abroad,” she said. “We just didn’t do anything the right way around when it came to the wedding. I was so busy and pregnant too so the timing wasn’t right. I think it will be next summer – maybe Ibiza.”

Despite their chemistry oozing electricity on the Xtra Factor, Olly Murs is desperate to set the record straight about him and co-presenter Caroline Flack. “We’ve got to a stage now where if there was something happening then we would come out and talk about it and say that ‘yeah we are dating’. I’ve heard that apparently we are sh**ging’ but we’re not. Though I’d be gay if I said I didn’t want to s**g Caroline.” What a charmer.

Newlywed Myleene Klass (above with me) is embarking on a new stage in her career – she’s entering the beauty market with a range of nail decoration. The star tells me: “I’ve been beavering away working on the designs and you can apply them in seconds and they last incredibly well.”
I also asked the lady outright if there was a chance Hear’Say might reform ala Steps for a new TV show. She laughed: “Not a chance in hell. It was hard enough the first time around with us all arguing and bitching. There’s no way I’d go back there.” Pure and simple answer to that one.

The race is on to fill the judging panel seats on Britain’s Got Talent for when the series starts again in April. Amanda Holden tells me she’s hoping she will be able to make a return after giving birth to her second baby. Amanda said: “I hope that I’ll be able to do both – bring up a baby and do Britain’s Got Talent from the start as I am a woman so I can do everything! I’m gutted Michael McIntyre isn’t coming back. As a judge on a show with Simon you are literally the last person to know anything and that’s what kind of makes it fun to be honest. I don’t want to be involved in the politics of the show so whoever they pick will be great. I’ve read in the papers loads of times about Paul O’Grady and I would kind of like that and if Cheryl came that would be amazing. I think she would be great.” have a word with Simon, Mandy!

INTERVIEW: Cher Lloyd

October 30th, 2011

Cher Lloyd has revealed she’s found the man she wants to spend the rest of her life with.
The 18-year-old may have only been dating trainee hairdresser Craig Monk since the summer but the star is deadly serious when she says she’s met a man for life. In her most revealing interview yet she tells me: “We’re living together, we’re very settled. This is it. You won’t ever hear of me having another boyfriend. My life is f***ing sorted. It’s cushdy. I’m rubbing my hands like an emperor – I’m on top of the world. I hope one day we’ll be married and having kids. Who knows.
“Some days I feel like I could run for miles screaming ‘Thank f***’ at the top of my lungs. I can’t believe I’ve fallen on my feet like this.”
But she says Craig finds her career as the UK’s premium teen pop star rather funny. “I’m the happiest girl alive,” she adds. “Meeting Craig was perfect timing. He helps me through a lot. He laughs about what I do and finds it amusing. When we’re walking around Asda doing our weekly shop and somebody spots me he just giggles.”
Cher, famous for her snarl throughout last years X Factor competition has a killer album on her hands with Sticks and Stones and this week she releases her Mike Posner duet With UR Love.
In real life Cher is surprisingly honest and seems to have grown up from the brat of last year. She revealed: “Me and my dad have always said, “We had shit all before and we can cope with shit all now.” My life hasn’t changed too much yet with money and things. I’m a big believer in saving money – I won’t be going out and spending. I haven’t bought anything of worth. The first thing I want to do is buy a house. Not big. I just want a detached house with a front door, four windows and a chimney pot. That’s what I’ve always wanted. I like things to aim for and that’s the one I’m working for. I’ve never wanted anything handed to me on a plate.”
Cher’s been called high maintenance in the past clear and it’s clear she’s no pushover these days either. Not even Simon Cowell could push her around from the sounds of it. She laughs: “I would have told Simon or whoever to piss off if they handed me 20 songs and said sing them for this album. No way would I have done that.”
And if you’re American and reading this then get ready. Because Cher has big plans for the US – Sticks and Stones is so perfect for the American market. She smirks: “America is something I’m going to do. But I want to do well out there. I’ve got big dreams. Even though I’ve achieved this there’s so much more I want to do. America is such a big thing to try and do. If I did try and do it I don’t want to be rejected. I want to be the one to succeed and make it work. I’m no Robbie.” I actually think out of everyone out there right now Cher stands the best chance of making it in the States! Good luck, Trouble!

On The Grapevine…..

October 30th, 2011

Bad news One Direction fans … it’s getting very serious between Louis Tomlinson and his underwear model girlfriend Eleanor Calder.
Louis, who’s been dating student Eleanor for a month after being introduced by Harry Styles, took her home last weekend to Doncaster to meet his mother Johanna.
My source tells me: “Eleanor and Johanna got on like a house on fire. It’s all looking very serious between Eleanor and Louis. She’s the first girlfriend in a long time who Louis has introduced to his mum. It looks like it could be a long time before he is single again.”

Senkai is the latest Matt Hermer restaurant on the block. I dined alongside Pixie Lott, Lisa Snowdon, Chloe Green and Amber Le Bon at London’s first sustainably sourced Japanese inspired restaurant this week. The food was ace – and believe me I’ve gobbled posh sashimi in every plush joint London has to offer! Anyway, Amber told me she’s thrilled dad Simon of Duran Duran is over his recent vocal problems. Amber said: “I’m so pleased for him. It was scary – his voice is what he relies on. But he’s fine now and already back on the road.” Good to hear!

Well done to Britney Spears. Her Femme Fatale tour this week was leagues above her last Circus tour. She sang far more live, the dancing was better (but still not on point) and the set design was fabulous and grand. I took Myleene Klass down to the gig and it’s fair to say Leenie was envious of that Britney hair whip. Top night!

Noel Gallagher is fast becoming one of my favourite people. Mainly because of the fact he says everything we are all thinking! At this week’s Q Awards Noel was on particularly spiffing form. On mobile phones Noel said: “I just want a basic 1994 Nokia mobile. I can keep it in my back pocket and just do the basics with it – phone and text. What would I need a camera on it for? iPhones are for Cockneys and ****s. And they are far too big.”
On collaborating with other artists: “I’ve never been asked to do a collaboration. I guess i just don’t give off that come and get me vibe. I wouldn’t be adverse to doing one with Coldplay or U2 - anyone who sells 50million albums.”
I also happened to overhear Noel boasting about the fact he’s accepted a cameo in a Bo’ Selecta Christmas special. Proper, erm, bo.

We all might feel crazy-eyed-Kitty on X Factor is a tad bat shit crazy but I can’t help but love her. At least she’s exciting to watch and in tune! And Brian May of Queen thinks so too. The curly haired legend blogged about his love for Kitty recently and now says the pair are in touch. Brian told me at the Q Awards: “I’m watching her with great interest. At the weekend there were not that many rock voices but she seemed to have going on. There seemed to be quite a lot of bullying going on and I felt for her. She seems to be really progressing now. We’ve exchanged a couple of emails since I wrote that blog about her. X Factor is a machine and its ruthless.”

Get used to the name Victoria Justice – because I’ve got a feeling we’ll be hearing a lot from her next year. The likes of Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez can take a hike. She’s the new teen queen for Nickelodeon and will be coming to ITV next year. Not only does she sing, dance and act, she’s a blooming good laugh. I caught up with the star – who has over a million twitter followers – this week in London. Next year she will star in new flick Fun Size where Chelsea Handler will play her mum and her co-star is Johnny Knoxville.

SHHH
Which star is worrying neighbour with her erratic behaviour? She’s supposed to be clean of drugs but is constantly traipsing down her stairs in towering heels to pick up from dealers outside. Sad.

Love is in the air for Skins star Luke Pasqualino and Gossip Girl actress Jessica Szohr! I’m told the pair have grown close and are “openly dating” on set whilst filming new comedy horror flick Love Bite in the UK. My mole says: “They’ve been going out for a few weeks now and by all accounts are completely smitten with each other.” The pair were last week spotted canoodling in Essex whilst filming scenes for the werewolf movie in Canvey Island.

Rob Brydon’s autobiography Small Man in a Book is out now in time for Christmas. It’s a great read from the Gavin and Stacey comedian. I caught up with the man himself (above with me) at a recent launch bash and stars including Ronni Ancona, Kelly Jones, Michael McIntyre and Ronnie Corbett turned out. Rob told me he wrote it all himself too. “It’s been very cathartic writing this book and I’ve worked hard on it,” he said. Funny read!

Rav Wilding doesn’t seem to have learnt his lesson when it comes to love following his split a few months back with Chantelle Houghton. I’m told he’s gone from one blow up blonde to another.
This time around he’s seeing Morgan Lees – contestant of my favourite TV show The Bachelor. I’m told the pair have been dating for the past month and Rav couldn’t be happier! Good for him. Hopefully Morgan’s not as fame-hungry as the ex….

Wyclef Jean has sent some stern words in the direction of former bandmate Lauryn Hill when it comes to the small matter of The Fugees reuniting. “If it is going to happen then they better hurry up because in 4-5 years I’m going to run for President again in Haiti,” he said at the Party In Pink Zumbathon event raising money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer. “For The Fugees thing to happen Lauryn has to want it to happen. I hope one day that it can happen.” Me too…come on Lauryn!

You may not know the name Charlene Soraia but her stun-ning vocals on the Twinings TV advert will ring a bell. She reworked The Calling’s 2001 hit Wherever Will You Go and the track is soaring up the chart. Even Sophie Habibis covered Charlene’s version on XF last week. “I missed Merlin to watch the X Factor,” she told me this week. “I was distraught! It was a bit surreal but then I had to remember it wasn’t me on that stage so that’s fine. It’s a tricky song to sing because it’s quite low in the register so good on her. I’m just shocked that people like it! I’d never have got my music to this many people in my entire career so I know how lucky I am to get this advert.” Her debut album Moonchild was produced by Oasis hitmaker Paul Stacey and due to “overwhelming demand” has had its release brought forward to November 21.

Hanging with Pepsi and Shirlie at George Michael’s Symphonica gig!

October 29th, 2011

George Michael was on great form for his Symphonica opening night gig at the Royal Albert Hall this week. Geri Halliwell, Rupert Everett and the X Factor boys were all there too. But I felt like I was in Club Tropicana – I bagged a seat next to the original eighties icons Pepsi and Shirlie (with me above)! And Shirlie told me she’s still in touch with Wham band member Andrew Ridgeley – although a reunion will NEVER happen. Shirlie, who’s married to Martin Kemp these days, told me: “He has all the privacy he wants down in Cornwall and he’s really happy. He doesn’t want a part of it and you have to respect him for that.” I guess! By the way – you can celebrate the 25th anniversary of Wham and buy WHAM: The Final featuring all the hits from November 28.
