Leona Lewis is the last person you’d expect to be rock and rolling up her squeaky clean image. But I’m pleased to tell you all that Hackney’s finest songstress has taken a step towards Pink-ville by getting her first tattoo.
The scribing on the inside of her left wrist is an ode to her true love, Lou Al-Chamaa – who she’s known since she was 10 years old! Leona blushed when I spotted it and told me: “It’s incredibly private and something that we both had done. It’s Hebrew letters and I’m thrilled with it. I can’t reveal what it is! Some thing need to remain private for me.”
Leona, dressed in Vivienne Westwood throughout the show, took my breath away duetting with Eighties Queen Cyndi Lauper on the track True Colours. She also tells me she’s thrilled to be performing her new material from her second album Echo. “Performing with Cyndi was a dream come true,” she said. “True Colours is one of my favourite songs. It’s great to have performed my new single. I’ve been working hard on the next album and taken my time and I’m happy with the results.”
And just before you all think the star has become all Diva like now that she’s such a huge star around the Globe, think again! She laughed: “You know me Dean, I’ve never been a Diva. I’m still the same girl I’ve always been and there are no airs or graces around me. I don’t travel with some huge entourage. I’m probably the most down to earth person you’ll meet. I’ve not had to work hard at that. It’s just the way I am.”
The Bleeding Love star revealed she’s enjoying hearing the new material from Alexandra Burke and X Factor judge Cheryl Cole. She said: “I love Alex’s song – it’s a great track. It’s not something I would ever have been able to pull off. We’re very different as artists. I’ve got a bit of up tempo stuff on my album – but there’s still the trademark epic ballads that I love performing.
“I’ve only heard a short bit of Cheryl’s song and it sounded good – but I need to hear it in full.”
