Despite being the winner of the last series of Dancing on Ice with partner Maria Filippov, former X factor star Ray Quinn failed to remember to pack his skates last week for the hard day of rehearsals that I joined him on! “I can’t believe I’ve forgotten them,” Ray said holding his head in his hands. But it didn’t stop the little man from getting on the ice – he went ahead in his trainers until a replacement pair arrived!
Ray, who admits he’s still coming back to earth after winning the series, is a man in demand right now with an appearance as Danny Zucco in Grease planned for after the tour. He told me he wasn’t going to retaliate to evil judge Jason Gardiner’s comments that Ray’s a “munchkin” and unsuitable for the role because he’s short. He said: “He seemed really nice to my face – and he hasn’t been nasty to me. I know I’ll be fine in the role. I’ve been Doody before so I can’t wait to be Danny.”
The star also can’t wait to have some friendly competition with last year’s best male, Hollyoaks star Chris Fountain. “Chris and me will have a lot of fun,” says Ray. “We’ll have a lot of fun and we’re going to be messing around a bit on tour!”
Ray also said he’s loving being able to eat whatever he wants while he takes part in the training for the tour. As Ray wolfed down roast ham, potatoes and veg followed by a cheeky pineapple upside down cake and custard in one sitting I stuck to Andi Peter’s favourite fruit – a bowl of pineapple! Ray was most unimpressed!
Mr Quinn also reveals he’s trying desperately to get his 60-year-old mother into ice skating after recently buying her some boots. He laughed: “I bought her some skates recently for her birthday and she fell asleep after a celebratory dinner wearing them! She can’t wait to start, bless her.”
