Battersea Evolution was the location for last night’s Capital Rocks event in aid of Help A London Child. I popped down to the dinner and dance where 600 guests managed to raise a whopping £150,000 for the charity.
And fortunately the event was jam packed full of some great celebrity guests. I caught up with Lisa Snowdon and Brendan Cole (above) who are still battling to keep their place in Strictly Come Dancing. Although both of them want to get into the final it seems they are starting to admit a little bit of defeat. Lisa told me: “Even though I’m getting top scores it seems the boys are still flying through the rounds with a huge amount of votes. Maybe it’s a case of female viewers voting for the hunky men.” Brendan added: “It’s getting incredibly tiring but we still want to make the final.” Good luck to them both. They even performed a dance for the crowd after a punter bid £1,000 for Lisa to don her dancing gear! Good on them – and how fit does Lisa look! The dancing has done her the world of good – she told me two weeks ago that she’s lost 2 inches off her waist from the training alone.
Also at the bash was GMTV’s Ben Shepherd who told me he was exhausted from all his early mornings on the sofa***X Factor star Brian Friedman who told me he can’t wait to return to Los Angeles in two weeks after his long stay in the UK for the show***Mutya Buena was out on the town with her So Solid pal Ashley Walters and she told me she’s working hard on her second solo album***Other guests included Caprice, stylist supremo Nick Ede and Atomic Kitten Liz McLarnon.
I was thrilled to meet X Factor contestant Ruth Lorenzo too – she’s a lovely girl in real life and looks far slimmer too. The telly doesn’t do anything for her great figure! She performed for the first time since being booted off of the show and got a standing ovation for her performance of Bon Jovi hit Always and Prince’s Purple Rain. Somehow I doubt it will be the last we’ve heard of her though. She said: “I’ve had so much interest from the latin music market – and record companies all over the world. I hope to sign a deal after the X Factor tour. I’m not giving up on making it in the music world just because I’m not on the show anymore. I want Alexandra to win the contest.” I couldn’t agree more on that one…..I don’t understand the appeal of Diana Vickers at all – all that squealing makes me want to put pins in my head!
