It’s been a jolly long time since we had a good old British boy band that we can be proud of. So I was kind of excitable when I got an invite to attend the launch party for a brand new old school boy band called Avenue.
The new band go by the rules of the traditionally successful boy band. There is five of them, they are all young, none of them admit to be gay (yet) and they are exceedingly easy on the eye.
Sound wise, I consider their music to be a male twist of Gils Aloud and Sugababes with a nice dollop of McFly too. And in all honesty I actually think they stand a good old chance of making the grade. The boys’ debut single drops on September 1 and is called Last Goodbye.
And Avenue have everything going for them behind the scenes too – they are being managed by the Sugababes management, Crown, and have signed their first record deal with Island.
At the event last night there were a load of moany mag journalists who stood there bitching about the boys and how they had no chance at success. I disagree. They have come at exactly the right time for the music industry. We have no boy band on the pop scene right now. You have great female solo artists like Duffy, Gabriella Cilmi and Amy Winehouse, good girl groups like Girls Aloud and Sugababes and middle of the road lads like Will Young. There’s no pop band shaking things up and getting the young girls peeing their pants with excitement, is there???
Whatever happened to the days of Bros and Take That when their eventual demise landed thousands of teenage girls in rehab territory? I miss those days.
Avenue are made up of Max George, Jonny Lloyd, Andy Brown, Scott Clarke and Ross Candy. I wish them all the best.
Ladies, start your screaming…..the lads from Avenue are definitely worth a yelp or two.
