Friday was a blast – I went off to the O2 Wireless Festival in Hyde Park to catch a few bands and experience the festival atmosphere without having to traipse too far out of my comfort zone. When it comes to festivals my rule for how far I’ll travel is Café Nero should only be half an hour away. So O2 Wireless qualified easily!
Anyway, I was VIP’d up thanks to the guys at Mission PR and spent a few hours enjoying acts including Beck and Morrissey.
Morrissey was a little precious if you ask me and kept making stupid speeches about hating meat. At one point the twerp said: “You’re putting death in your body!” as the smell of barbecue sausages wafted over the stage! Get over yourself Mozza – we know you are a vegetarian, but pur-lease. You’re not eating it….
He was apparently a great singer – but admittedly after that comment I gave up and headed to the bar….
I spent time chatting to Pixie Geldof. She’s a good egg and we spoke about her plans for the future. She said she’s looking to go off to university next year – she’s still only 17. The thing I like about her is that she has no interest in relying on her surname to get forwards in life. She’s a hard grafter – despite whatever reports you read. She would love to get into music but said: “I’m not sure if people would give me a chance or not.” I think she’s a great girl and deserves a chance whatever she decides to do.
I grabbed Alex Zane a mojito at the bar and enjoyed a drinkie with him. He presents the breakfast show now for XFM every morning and told me his partying days are long gone now. He said: “I’m in bed by half nine most nights and I’m a changed guy. I’ve calmed down completely – I actually have to look after myself now. I have no choice. It was hard at first getting up at 4.30am – in fact it was hard for six months. But now I’m used to it.” Rather you than me, Al!
I also caught up briefly with the lovely model Ben Grimes and her man Jackson Scott. As a couple they seem totally smitten. They were their with Sadie Frost’s on/off squeeze Kristian Marr. He was a little worse for wear….
Over the four night festival tonnes of celebrities made it down to catch acts including Jay-Z, Fat Boy Slim, Robyn, Roisin Murphy and Crowded House perform. My spies spotted Fearne Cotton and Reggie Yates, Patrick Kielty, Girls Aloud stars Sarah Harding and Nicola Roberts, Drag Queen Jodie Harsh, footballer Rio Ferdinand and Vernon Kay.
One person who didn’t make it down to the O2 event was Naomi Campbell. The stroppy cow apparently said she would only come if she were able to get a car driven right inside the event backstage – a request only usually granted for the acts performing.
Then when organisers struggled to get her cleared for access ‘Miss Blackberry 2008′ decided not to attend. People should just blanket ban Naomi – and her shitty diva attitude – from all events.
